Walk Yourself Thin

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Eager to drop those last remaining post pregnancy pounds and slip back into your pre-pregnancy jeans? Read on!

If you’ve followed the adage, nine months up, nine months down, chances are you’ve lost the bulk of your pregnancy weight by now.(Whether you have or you haven’t, keep reading.) One of the best ways to shed pounds and get fit is also one of the simplest: Walking! Almost anyone can do it, just get yourself a good pair of sneakers and you’re ready to roll. Here, tips on getting started — and going the distance.

Buy a pedometer. It doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive — all you need is one that keeps track of the amount of steps you take in a day. Your goal: at least 10,000, which may sound like a lot but is entirely doable (Promise!).
Set a baseline number. After wearing your pedometer for a few days, you’ll get an idea of how many steps you usually take. That’s your starting point. Your new mission is to increase that number by about 5 percent every week. For example, if you normally walk 3,000 steps daily, try to add 150 steps a day for the next week. You’d be surprised how motivating that little gadget can be.
Increase your speed. In addition to walking farther, try walking faster. See how long it takes you to walk a certain distance, say around the track at the high school, then try to reduce that time over the course of a few weeks.
Don’t forget to stretch, especially your quadriceps, calves, shins, and hips. And one more thing: Don’t be surprised if walking boosts your mood as well as your weight-loss efforts!

Here is a great article from www.whatoexpect.com. I recently read that people who wear pedometers tend to take a lot more steps just because they have it on! Don’t forget to stay hydrated while you walk as well. Another great idea is to get a buddy. Time flies when you are walking and talking. I also enjoy pushing the stroller, that gives me that much more “work” on my walk. Sneak in a few lunges and squats on yor walk and you get an even better workout!

20 Minute Office Workout

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Here is a nice 20 minute workout you can do in your office. You just need 2 hand weights and mat.

I’ve been squeezing in my workouts at lunch when I can. It’s much easier if I don’t have to leave the building to get it done. And with a 10 month old baby, I can’t find time in the morning or at night!

I hope you enjoy it. This can be done by pregnant and non pregnant women (and of course men). Pregnant women need to modify the crunches, or skip them all together so you are not laying on your back for an extended period of time. Although, you can be on your back, I found it uncomfortable anyway.

Spare Time Workout

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Here’s a great workout I found for new moms. It is for those who have just a few minutes a day to squeeze in an effective workout, while they are at home with their cherub. Remember, it took 9 months to get your body ready for delivery, don’t try to rush the recovery!

When I was on leave with my son, I did many exercises where I could hold him and play with him at the same time. It was much easier to find the time that way. And we both enjoyed it more! You can get your tummy time in while your baby is getting theirs!

Enjoy!

It’s been 2 weeks already! How are you doing with increasing your water intake with Tip 1?

Today we are going to add a little bit of exercise to your day. It’s super easy, and can become a daily habit in no time!

Change #2: Every time you use the restroom do 5-10 squats.

Squats

Benefit: Great butt and legs! A great addition to your current workout routine, or a great start to working out!

As with Tip 1 this is good for both pregnant and non-pregnant women (and men!).

Keep drinking water and start doing some squats!

Maternal Fitness book

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

There are a lot of pregnancy books out there, it’s hard to know which ones are worth your time. I found that there was something good in every book, but very little about pregnancy fitness. For real fitness information, you need to look at pregnancy fitness specific books.

My favorite pregnancy fitness book was Maternal Fitness. This book goes through exercises that prepare your body for delivery and recovery. It was very motivating, and made me feel like I was preparing for a marathon, not just trying to keep my tummy in shape. All of the exercises were very easy to do. So easy that many of them I did in my car on my way to and from work each day. It seemed silly when my baby was tiny, but as he grew, I could really feel how well they were working. You could even see muscle tone in my tummy when I was 7 months pregnant!

Overall, I do not feel like these exercises alone will be all you need to stay fit throughout your pregnancy. However, they are a great foundation to build from. There is also a lot of guidance on how to perform daily tasks keeping your core in mind. Something we should all do, pregnant or not!

In the future, I will cover more topics from this book in detail. Feel free to pick up this book today if you can’t wait! :)

Turbulence Training

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Are you looking for something as good as Fit Yummy Mummy for the Daddy in your home? Have him try out Turbulence Training.

Normally, I wouldn’t write about Dad workouts on my Mom pages here, but I find that it is much easier for me to eat right and exercise when my husband is doing the same. Nothing makes me weaker than watching him eat “junk food” while I eat right. Then one bite here and one bite there turns into poorly planned meals and missed workouts. Not good! I’m always much better off when he’s on the right track too!

Also, Daddies have a tendency to put on a little pregnancy weight as well. There actually have been studies that show that their hormones change too! And they accuse us of being ‘hormonal’ all the time! :)

What I noticed at our house is I didn’t have the energy to take care of all the meal preparations. Then, the meals became less and less healthy. Now that Joey is almost 9 months old, we have a good groove and are all eating well and finding time to workout. What a relief!

Turbulence Training workouts pack more workouts into less time. You don’t have to find hours and hours to spend in the gym. Just a few concentrated workouts a week and you are set. They are perfect for parents!

Check out Turbulence Training for your hubby or yourself today!

Great Workout from Fit Yummy Mummy

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I hope you all got signed up for the great Fit Yummy Mummy deal. If not, there’s still time!

Holly has a great blog on her website, and I found this workout on it. It totally kicks your butt! I love it! Currently I am trying to do it 3 times a week in my office. You don’t need much room and just one dumbbell. The first few times I tried it, I was SO sore. I tried to get my husband to do it, but he still thinks you have to workout longer than 15 minutes. So far, I can only handle 15 minutes of this!

Good luck with your fitness goals and try Fit Yummy Mummy today!

P.S. This intense workout is NOT for you pregnant mummies!

Fit Yummy Mummy Promotion

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Every January, if you’re like most people, you’re ready to shed
those holiday pounds and you set a resolution to get your body
back. If you’d like a guaranteed way to lose fat as quickly as
possible and make those resolutions a reality, then this will be
the most important e-mail you’ve ever read in your entire life.
Here’s why…

Holly Rigsby, busy mom’s fat loss expert, is a busy mom herself.
She knows first hand, the obstacles moms face when it comes to
finding the time to get eat right and exercise. That is why she
created The Fit Yummy Mummy Lifestyle System.
The body you’ve desired can be yours, and in less time than you’ve
always thought necessary.

Make this the year you finally succeed!

It is very easy to get off to a great start year after year, but oh
so difficult to keep it going. Your momentum quickly fades as you
realize you just don’t have the time to spend 30 minutes or more on
the treadmill. Or maybe you just got tired of doing the same
workout week-in, week-out. You felt like you were working hard
enough to see results, but the scale told a different story.

Well, all of those problems and more are solved with the Fit Yummy
Mummy system.

It is a comprehensive guide that includes a 16 week fat loss
program with four different formats that you can easily plug into
your busy lifestyle - something not found in any of the cookie
cutter fat loss programs on the market. Regardless of your fitness
background or level, there is a workout designed specifically for
you. The best part is that each of the Fit Yummy Mummy workout
programs takes up less than 90 minutes of your week - NOT 90 -
minutes a day! Plus there is no need to worry about hitting a
plateau with the bonus 16-week advanced fat loss program.

“I Love doing these workouts, the short burst cardio is a life
saver! I have 4 boys so I don’t have a lot of time, but I can
always fit in your workout and I love doing it! Thanks for all
your support! By the way I LOVE the workout DVD. If you’re
thinking about making another one, that would be great and I would
love to purchase it!” ~ Pam O’Donnell

It also includes a complete Supportive Nutrition Plan that covers
every conceivable nutrition issue from how often you should eat to
what you should keep in your pantry.

“I think others should know how amazing it is to be able to eat
more, and lose fat! It’s amazing how you can eat more, feel better
and see improvements in your body!!! When people ask me my secret,
I tell them that I’m eating more. :-) They are amazed! It’s a
fabulous plan!” ~ Susan Pearson

Fit Yummy Mummy is a Lifestyle System that literally covers all
aspects of losing fat, getting fit and taking control of your body
and your life - and the best part is that it is written
specifically for busy moms. The program is understanding of the
unique situations moms face, informative, and above all,

2008 New Year’s Resolutions

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

I finally had time to figure out what my resolutions will be this year! I’m a little late getting started, but I’m sure the 9 days won’t kill me.

Over the years I’ve tried to make mine more general so that I can set smaller goals throughout the year for them. Also, I found that less is more. If I focus on 3 resolutions, instead of 10, odds are I’ll stick to them. Here are my resolutions and my first steps toward achieving them.

1. Share my fitness knowledge with as many people as possible

-My blog

-Instruct classes

-Write an ebook

2. Sharpen my image (I watched a lot of What Not to Wear on maternity leave)

-Take the time to style my hair (not just a ponytail) 3x a week

-Wear dressy outfits to work (I can wear jeans every day but want to switch from sweatshirts to sweaters, etc.) 2-3x a week

-Remember my jewelry!

3. Find myself (After having my baby I feel like someone else and miss the old me. I need to figure out who the new me is.)

-Take ME time 1x a week

-Take mom & dad time 1x a week

-Eat right and exercise (something I let slip with juggling a new baby and work)

Hopefully you have set your resolutions and are off to a great start! I will keep you posted on mine.

:)
